I have a Motorola T720i connected to O2 in the UK and I have a problem that
you might be able to help me with.
I have voicemail 901 turned on and my problem is that the phone only rings
for a few short seconds before the voicemail answers.
The number is seconds the phone rings is very very short. In fact it is so
short that I am not quick enough to answer the phone before the voicemail
    answers it for me.

Is there any way to change the amount of time that the phone rings before
voicemail answers so that I have a fighting chance to answer it myself?

I hope you can help me.

    Thanks!

Did you call the service provider? They might be able to adjust the rings
    before answer.
