When you set up the news account, in the field that requires your email
address, use one of these options:

1: Put in a fake address.

2: Open up a "spam trap" account, usually a hotmail account, as Hotmail is
already famous for recieving spam, thereby protecting you main account from
    the spam.

3: "Mung" your real address, ie, [email protected]. Any human
would know to remove the "nospam", whereas an automated addy harvester
    wouldn't.

I wouldn't bet the farm on that, It is a trival problem to use awk or sed to
remove NOSPAM from your address. So how about this, the automated addy
harvester outputs to a text file the addresses it finds, then one run a
script using sed to whack the NOSPAM leaving good address.

    use, [email protected]
    "take off mypants to reply"

    in some cases, it'll be
    losemynumber.col.co.uk
    losemynumber
    or
    "mydrawers"
    drop my drawers to reply

Good call - I've been saying that for years. The "NOSPAM" munge is nothing
more than a panacea, as it is easily compensated for by text filters.
