I just picked up a Motorola t730 phone and the Mobile Office kit.
Unfortunately the phone cannot be detected by the Quicklink Mobile
Phonebook software (yes I installed the driver). If I install the
Quicklink connectivity software, it sees the modem just fine. I
installed on a Windows 98 machine and it works fine. Verizon doesn't
have a clue and they're going back and forth with Smith Micro (the
software developer) and haven't come up with an answer. I've killed my
firewall, don't have anti-virus software, nor quick/hotsync (I don't
even own a Palm). The only possible thing I could think of that would
interfere is the UMSD.exe software that listens for my USB flash memory
disk. I killed that too, to go. I'm at a loss as to what I can do to
troubleshoot this, Winblows has nothing in the way of port
troubleshooting tools. If it was Unix.....
Anyone ever successfully get Quicklink Mobile Phonebook to run under
w2k, or know how to fix this problem?

I have had no troubles getting QuickLink Mobile version 3.0.0(893h) to
run on w2k.

I saw a similar problem at a repair place when someone installed mobile
office first, and THEN the USB drivers. Removed them both, Rebooted the
machine and then installed them again in the proper order (USB drivers first
and then mobile office). Don't know if that helps any, but it has worked
fine ever since.

I installed it at home on a similarly configured machine and no problems
at all, unfortunately the software "new in the box" is Version 2.0.2
(998g). WTF? Where did you get your copy? I didn't see any updates on
the SmithMicro site :-(

One thing I recall was someone (again at the repair place) only had serial
ports on their machine and had USB to serial converters, the phone is set to
230K and the max speed for serial is (usually) 115K.
Some questions the techs asked me to pass on (they do both computer repair
and verizon sales), Do you by any chance have Zonealarm installed? It has to
be removed (not just turned off) before installation. Any Virus programs
that may interfere with installation of new drivers? Do you have win 98 or
win 98 second edition on your computer? (there are different probs with the
first version of win 98 that are fixed in the second edition)? and did you
upgrade from win 95 to win 98 (first edition) and then to win 98 SE? (Driver
params are set when you first do the upgrade from 95 to 98 but may not have
been reset again when you updated from first to second edition of 98).

Have you tried another driver?
One of the drivers at http://www.susteen.com/drivers.htm worked for
me, even though I'm using a Motorola cable..

Have you tried another driver?
One of the drivers at http://www.susteen.com/drivers.htm worked for
me, even though I'm using a Motorola cable..

Yep, I have Zone Alarm (free) on the troubled system, and Zone Alarm Pro
on the home system that works just fine. I had a feeling that Zone Alarm
could interfere as I installed a USB based digital camera software that
added a network in Zone Alarm. I figured the phone was straight serial,
but perhaps it's IP based... I'll try uninstalling Zone Alarm as you
suggested.

Nope, don't run any of those crap programs that just hose the system,
and I've never had a virus. I read most of my email in Pine (Unix) and
my Outlook based email is prefiltered for viruses before it hits my inbox...

The system that I tested this on was Win 98 SE, and it was a fresh
