I have the 270c and the professional hands free car install kit (from
Motorola but I can't remember the part number). Here's the question: The
phone will not power up when I turn on the key, I have to do it
manually. Once on, all is well, but when I shut the key off the phone
powers down and will not turn back on with the key.

I have tried all the settings, from the power off delay (where the phone
will stay on a programmed amount of time after the key is turned off) to
the charge after power off (where it will turn the phone off but keep
charging the battery for a programmed amount of time).

Is this a design of the phone or could there be a problem?

    Thanks RLG

Do you have the red wire connected to a constant source of power, or
    to a switched source?

Do you have the red wire connected to a constant source of power, or

Re: 270c and install car kit

You dont have the "IGN Sense" Wire hooked up. There is (usually) 3 wires on
the install kit power cable. RED goes to a Constant On Positive +Power
Source, Black Goes to Ground (or Earth as our European friends Call It ) The
3rd wire, usually GREEN goes to a SWITCHABLE POSITIVE + Power Source.
Positive source that comes on when the KEY COMES ON. And that will solve
your issue. That will make the device Power on when the Key Comes on, and
then, programmable, stay out for say 5 minutes when you turn the Key Off.
(Depends On The Device) Common problem/issue on installed phones. If you
have a 4th wire, it is usually a TRIGGER that will either activate the RADIO
MUTE or ACTIVATE the POWER ANTENNA up with Power on and Down with Power OFF.

At the risk of igniting, yes the IGN sense is hooked up (the green
wire). The phone actually does power off when the key is turned off, and
switches to hands-free and charging mode while the key is on, so
something is sensing IGN. And if I set the option to charge when the key
is off, the phone switches off and turns back on in charge mode. But,
unless I keep this setting, the phone will not turn back on after it
powers down. I would normally leave it that way, but the lights on the
phone stay on during that charge period, and it's an invitation to theft
    (especially at night).
