I'm not sure if there are many other people like me who first saw the v600 6
months ago and read that it would be available in the 1st half of 2003, then
saw the date change to the 3rd quarter and then to September and slowly the
    date is now January 2004.

Well I had enough, after so much of my time and effort with this phone and
getting my hopes up, I cant be bothered any more - I've just opted for the
    sony ericsson z600.

The SE z600 is a really good alternative offering very similar features
(bluetooth, clamshell etc) with a few extra ones (Irda, better screen, no
antenna, much much much better keypad and some more)

the features missing from the z600 which the v600 have are the halo group
caller thingy, mp3 ring tones, some video capability.

Lets face it is there anyone out there pining for the motorola v600 who
really liked the dated keypad look on it???

I have to admit I might miss the mp3 ringtones, but overall I've compared a
dummy v600 to a real z600 and the SE z600 wins on that front, I only wish
that SE had a great looking Bluetooth headset which moto do at the mo...

Is there anyone out there with other v600 let down stories, or anyone with
thoughts (good/bad) on the SE z600???

I have the SE Z600, sold my old T610 to get it.
    Beautiful piece of kit.
The only thing that bugs me is the rather loud SNAP when you fully open or
    shut the screen.
I'm sure it will get quieter but I do find it rather concerning! If anyone
else finds the same problem please reply - otherwise this Z600 is heading
    back to the shop!

Yes, they're all the same, a chunky clamshell click - just like the NEC 3G
phones. Like you, I sold my T610 for a Z600 and certainly not regretting it.
I'll put up with the click when opening it because unlike the T610, the Z600
doesn't click everytime I press a button - makes for more discrete texting

Z600 is not a quad band phone, no GSM850, makes it not as useful in
the US (due to there being GSM 850 AND 1900 in the US). That's a big
    difference.

Don't know why SE won't make any quad band GSM phones.

Yeah i like my Z600, couple of niggles with it though. Using a PAYG sim when
the remaining credit flashes up after making a call or sending a text it
plays the SMS received tone. Apparently its a flash SMS? I emailed Sony
about it asking if future firmwares would have the option to turn off
notification sound for flash sms, they replied with "We are not at liberty
to discuss with you our plans for future firmware"
Also i've had the phone lock up on me a couple of times, its also quite good
at switching to SOS Calls Only even if the network bar is full! Bluetooth
works flawlessly, links to my headset, PC & iPaq with no problems.

What is stopping you getting the Motorola Bluetooth headset and using
    it with your Z600?

The screen on the V600 is nice but it has FAR fewer pixels than the V600

The V600 also has a camera with twice the resolution (or 4 times as many
pixels to look at it another way)

Isn't the Z600 just a T610 in a clamshell, with all the shortcomings that
    implies?
