Ditto. Echoes my experience with being suckered into a Radio Shack/Sprint
phone deal.
Was told about the 14-day no obligation trial--cancel within that period,
and owe nothing more than the $39 setup charge.
Got the phone home, found out it didn't have any service. Also found out on
major interstates there were dead zones every 2 miles. Returned the phone
and Sprint's story changed. Now they wanted over $70 from me--the first
month's ENTIRE bill, for a few trial day's use.
Sprint CSRs are liars. They've got a scam running and I filed a complaint
with the AG over that little caper 2 years ago.
I tried Verizon next, and found the phone was in roam mode at my house.
Then Cingular... no service at the house...
Then finally Nextel. Good strong signal at the house and 100% reliable on
the interstate highway.
During the blackout, our local cell site lost power and didn't come back for
four days. I wrote a letter to Nextel's CEO. I got a response within a week
from their freq coordinator and a full explanation of why the site was down
(air conditioner stopped, while the batteries kept the cell running--but the
August heat caused an autotune combiner to melt down and a new one had to be
shipped the following Monday).
Few companies are honest when the rubber hits the pavement, but I was
delighted at the friendly and courteous response I got from the Nextel
technical people.
No company is perfect, but at Nextel, I don't see an overtly-corrupt
attitude. They make an effort to get things right, and 99.9% of the time, my
service is excellent. I use my i90c a lot, and lately, I can't recall any
incident where a call dropped or signal wasn't good enough for a solid
connection.
AVOID Sprint, above all cellular companies. I have a feeling they haven't
changed their tune since April 2002.

Yes, Sprint is as bad as that. While the poster lacked the elocution style
of Emily Post, the point does ring true. I'm a former victim of Sprint's
revenue generating scam with 14-day trials and my attorney started
litigation against them some time ago. I can't discuss details, but
something significant will come from the justice system to put the kaybosh
on Sprint's illegal and fraudulent sign up scam.

AMEN! So I'm not alone in this mysery after all!
I chose not to pay their randsom. I sued their collection agency (turned out
it was a mom-n-pop operation, so they backed down immediately when they got
served court papers).
Sprint are crooks, plain n simple. The Enron mentality at work.

Re: NEVER SIGN A CONTRACT WITH SPRINT

six years ago sprint pcs was still good. i was able to buy a phone online
and return it 2-3 days later and pay only for the airtime only. i even got
to speak with a person and not a pre-recorded machine. two years ago i
attempted to buy another sprint pcs phone from circuit city, free after
rebate. i brought it home to find out there was absolutely no coverage where
i live. brought it into a sprintpcs store and they claimed the software was
old and they upgraded it. when i got home, i had the same problem. this
wasnt very reliable so i returned it back to circuit city with no problems
luckily. sorry to hear that you had to go thru all that troubles.

Re: NEVER SIGN A CONTRACT WITH SPRINT

Boy am I glad that I'm with T-Mobile. I've had their service for
almost 5 years now. Have gone from single account to the family plan,
back to individual accounts and now back to family plan.
I have never had a bad time with them. I've had phones break and was
sent replacements quickly, I can get upgrade phones for a fraction of
the original price.

No complaints...had a friend that work with Sprint, he quit because of
their practices and he couldn't live with it.
