Difference in signal/coding for voice vs. direct connect?

Is there a difference between the encoding and signal of a regular
voice converstation versus direct connect? Would there be a situation
where DC would work but not a regular call?

Just curious how this is supposed to work... -Ali

The Direct Connect and the telephone interconnect are different in the
NEXTEL system. Yes there can be a given situation that one will have
better access than the other. One being that the time division for DC
is 6 to 1 and phone interconnect is 3 to 1 for each frequency on the
tower. This has been increased with the new vocoder. but you need a
new Falcon (i### series phone).

That would be one difference, but there are others too...

The new vocoders have not been activated yet- they are now saying late this
