Motorola just wasted valuable resources and my time with the software
upgrade of my IDEN i730A Nextel Phone. My phone was resetting itself and not
connecting calls on a frequent basis. called the peeps at nextel they passed
me over to motorola. The rep said they will send me the cable and CD with
the software upgrade on it. FedEx rings the bell this morning and guess
what...no CD in the package only the cable. Called motorola. They said go to
www.motola.com/iden to download the application to upgrade the phone. 90
plus mbs. wow. Im rolling right....wrong......There seems to be a problem
with WinXP Professional SP2 recognizing the device attatched to the USB port
to connect to the phone for the upgrade. Error -35. called the reps back. Oh
now you have to take the phone in to a nextel service center so they can
upgrade it for you...we have been having problems with the application
recognizing the phone with XP.....wow duhh!!!....why waste my time and your
resources for me to find all that out...I asked have you guys been talking
to Microsoft concerning the problem.....Uhhhh....I dont know.....
Is there a way to circumvent these problems without me having to take the
phone in to get it upgraded??

All I have to say is bad about Nextel from day one. The only thing I could
do personally is mail you the disk I have if you think this will help. Or
maybe send it to general delivery at a PO in your town if you feel
uncomfortable in any way. I never got to use it as my 730 got completely
trashed by the teen that used it. I also have a book that was included and I
would be happy to include that also.
I know I know I am such a nice guy.
Good luck.

Re: i730 Upgrade
Did you use they disk they sent you or did you download the software from
the website?
If you used your disk to upgrade your phone then By all means we can make
arrangements for me to acquire the disk. Are all the software versions on
the disk. I have the i730A version on my phone.

Re: i730 Upgrade
I decided to get mad and not let this thing kick me in the ass (Upgrade) so
i decided to do some trouble shooting and I found out that the cable has a
slight design flaw. At the USB end the cable was not making correct contact
with the port on my computer. so i did what any real engineer would do.....I
"jimmy rigged" it. Got my XP operating system to recognize the device.
"motorola IDEN" and it installed the drivers and It was all smooth sailing
from there Iam a happy camper.

Re: i730 Upgrade
I had the same cable problem, but during the upgrade the cable came lose
from my i730 destroying the flash memory. Called Moto and found out
that the cable supplied with the upgrade is a limited time use cable.
I should have used the one I had purchased.
Moto replace the i730, with a very new phone. I had the phone the very
next day. Customer service was great. When I checked the phone, it had
a new version of the CPU and the flash rom was upgraded. That was Nov
26, 2004, and I have not had *any* problems with the phone.
When Moto had the cables made they decided to save money and not have
the cables tested. Thats what makes it a limited use cable.
Let me guess, the cable they supplied with the software upgrade was
model # NNTN5970A. The normal (for purchase) data cable is model #
NKN6559A

Was this just recent? If so maybe they learned a lesson about the

Re: i730 Upgrade
Well not necessarily a bad cable but a design flaw with the USB end. If the
cable was completely bad It would not move data at all. Either the USB port
on my computer is to big to make a complete and tight fit. Or the USB end of
the cable is to small to make a complete tight fit. But I managed to get it
to make full contact.

Re: i730 Upgrade
I believe that Moto shipped the software upgrades in A->Z order.
And maybe they had started shipping the NNTN5970A at that time.
Now its latter in the cycle and maybe they learned that the best
way to have the fewest problems is to ship the tested NKN6559A
cable. So enjoy it. Download the WebJal software and start
having fun DL'ing your own ringtones and wallpapers.
Oh and forget about the Phone Management software, its klugie!
At least the version I DL'ed is.
