    Re: Two-Way messaging headache

The Nextel servers need to know how to route each message that is
sent. For email is it easy but for phone numbers there is no standard
    directory to hand off to.

So, if Nextel has not setup a 'route' to the other carrier's SMS
gateway then you are out of luck. You could call and ask them to set
one up but I would not hold your breath.

You can always use the email version for the carrier of the person you
    want to reach.

I use a T-Mobile currently. I have a NEXTEL too but then going around with 2
phones seems a little crazy. I just appreciate the free incoming of Nextel.

I am even unable to send messages to UK. I mean that is not a far cry.

Dunno, wether to keep the service or no.

    Re: Two-Way messaging headache

I too have tried to send messages to the UK, I know this does not work
now. Nextel has no international SMS ability, and also no ability to
send Mobile Originated SMS, which is how T-Mobile, AT&T gsm, Cingular
gsm (and I think Verizon possibly) sends the SMS messages. Nextel uses
this cumbersome wireless web function to send messages, the two-way
messaging. It is good for sending short emails and text messages to
phones in the USA (other than Alltel). With most GSM carriers (I can't
say all because I truthfully dont know) the phones send with Mobile
originated sms meaning you send it directly from the phone; no web to
go into just type and send.

This is, I think, one of the only things Nextel is lacking in. You
cant even view your old messages if you are not in service, such as a
number someone sent to you to call or important informat, but you are
not in service area. You cant even go to a pay phone to call since you
cant get the message. It is on their servers.

Maybe some day. My phone the i95cl has the capability of Mobile
Originated SMS, but until Nextel turns that switch on/installs
necesary equipment, we wont doing that part anyway.

Thanks. I had called the Nextel people. They confirm what you said.

    I am returning my service.

    Sincerely,
