    And we'd all be thankful.

The point is, with taxes, it's $2 here, $2 there. Kind of like boiling a
frog. If they raise the taxes slowly, less people complain. One day,
you'll be all growed up and you might have the mental capacity to understand
concepts like taxes, social issues, etc.

This is typical of Maryland taxes. When I moved into the state years ago
they wanted me to pay sales tax on my two cars based on their value. All
other states at least give you credit for tax paid in another state & call
    it even, but not Maryland.

This is the state where the governor was so starved for a football team
he paid for Art Modell to move the original Cleveland Browns.

A lot of people I knew from Maryland were *not* happy about that. Apparently
they thought the state's priorities were, well, rather screwed up.

Taxes are a part of life deal with it, if that 2 bucks is the deal
breaker cancel your service. Remember 911 will still work from your
handset without you paying a provider. I have a pretty good
understanding of taxes and social issues and taxes are something you
will have to live with, I hate paying them but you have to. Again we
are talking about a luxury here not a necessity (cell service) ... MB

Yeah Thomas lets go protest at the courthouse all week long to get a 2
dollar fee waived, that is cost effective. You can protest all you want
the government is usually going to win. Why not get a lawyer at $100.00
per hour to protest it so you MIGHT be able to save 2 bucks a month....

Subsidizing the poor and/or needy is one thing. That however, needs to be
paid for by an appropriate tax, not a cellular phone tax. What you describe
is very much the type of thing paid for by the General fund of most
goverment bodies. If you need roads, you tax those who benefit from roads,
that may include OTR truckers, residential automobiles, businesses that
directly benefit from transportation (most of them ... with the exception of
perhaps data services). Taxing arbitrarily to get your bills paid is simply
wrong and invites corruption or lazy accounting (let's just move dollars
from this account to this account and now we are balanced). What you don't
seem to get is that tax is not bad, it is what they are taxing. What is
being taxed needs to be relavent to what the tax is used for ... otherwise,
it is simply a general expenditure which comes from the general fund which
is usually funded by income (and business) and property taxes.

So, if somebody is more upscale than you ... you don't feel at all sorry for
them, but as soon as it is you, oh my God! What a fiasco ... I have been
screwed. Alright Robin Hood, see you around.

Our method of election and representation is a democracy. Our method of
taxation and economy are definitely NOT a democracy. To say it is free
trade is also wrong. It is very much a socialized economy, although not
nearly as extreme as many of the EU countries.

Actually, he is gone after 8 years, and MD voters elected a Republican
for the first time in 40+ years IIRC, Robert Ehrlich. Of course their
statehouse is Democratically controlled, so nothing gets done.....
