NexTel Wins Hands Down

Well, Verizon PTT has been out for about a week now, and I have had some
friends who are NexTel subscribers try out the new Verizon PTT. They all
agree that the new service should be called Verizon Push and Wait to Talk.
I've witnessed it myself. It really sucks to have to wait for the phones to
connect up.

Anyway, for those of you on the wait list for the new v60p, you should only
have to wait about one more week. Verizon will have a lot of used phones
from all the returns that they are going to get.

I too have had a couple of v60p's to try for a couple of days. VERY
disappointing. Don't kid yourself about Verizons better coverage area.
Verizon has built a new network that amongst other things it will support,
it supports the Push-To-Talk feature. This network is called the 1XRTT
network. Looking at the coverage map of their standard cellular network vs
their 1XRTT network, 1XRtt is about 20% the coverage of their cellular
network-- if that.

Basically you have to push and hold the connect button until it says talking
which in our tests could be anywhere from 10 seconds to 30 seconds (in a
major metro area with 5 bars signal on both units. I once connected to the
other unit, you can push-to-talk fairly easy, but the delay between the
button press and the beep was anywhere between 1 and 8 seconds. It was
extremely frustrating to carry on a conversation because the timing was off.

I was also able to try the units in a low signal area with 1 bar on each
unit. The delays were near the 30 second level for the connect and about 8
seconds for each volly of the conversation. I pulled out my Nexel in the
same 1 bar condition in the same spot and was able to communicate with no
more than a half second delay from push to beep.

This service is clearly a version 1 product and I will go nowhere near it
for another year until they work out the kinks.

The v60p was at least as nice as my v60 is, the voice clarity of the
PushToTalk feature was very good. There were some ergonomic gripes I have
with it though. The speakerphone button is positioned right in front of the
belt clip release tab. I switched the phone from speaker to earpiece EVERY
time I removed it from the clip.

Beware... The v60p I tried has a GPS feature which I would imagine would
allow your boss to track your location, verizon to send targeted location
based ads and possibly you could put an app on the phone to find out where
the heck YOU are. My boss already knows enough about me, keep the GPS away
from me.

I would approach the Verizon Push To Talk feature with extreme caution for
now.

Not only does nextel work faster (your words-but true)
If you look at verizon's "push to talk" coverage map - it is similar to
nextel's - no nationwide coverage here.

Funny how there are no "Can you hear me now" commercials for PTT? Not ready
for prime time is my guess.

Uh, no... all of Verizon's digital areas are supposed to be 1x. You
may be looking at a map of coverage on a nationwide plan. Such a map
will include non-VZW areas too.

Aside from that, yeah, I would wait too - I don't want to have to buy
another Moto phone

I'll agree that VZW is better nation wide, but Nextel is not that far
behind. I'll stick with Nextel. Their PTT is way better then VZw's.

The Delay being 10-30 seconds I didn't see that I saw more of like a
4-10 second delay on inital connect and about 1-2 seconds from push to
beep, to talk. I sell this stuff all-day long most of you probably don't
If you do sell it than you would know that it uses the Enhanced Services
area Very Similar to the Mobile to Mobile Rate Area is is bigger than
Nextel's coverage area. So lets get off this topic of bashing a service
when chances are you haven't used it. as far as a waiting list Walk into

I agree here, they need to work out thekinks...and this, BTW is
something that has only been out for a week. Nextel has had years to
perfect something that started as Fleet Call to begin with.

My prediction, the day VZW becomes good at PTT is the day Nextel becomes
good at something other than PTT.

They all have their own uses.

I agree with the last post here. Yes, Verizon is having it's share of
minor problems with PTT. I believe that it's because of it's "newness".
I have Nextel, just switched to a "stand-by" plan so I don't have to
put up with Nextel's infamous beeeppppppp when I'm trying to make my
calls. The Nextel Network's call capability is diminishing. Nationwide
Direct Connect has over-saturated cell sites as well as Cross-Fleeting
between different Groups. Their cell sites are at or above capacity now
as a result of this, and cell sites are limited as well. So yes, I will
ride out the storm with their PTT because I believe it will be much
better than Nextel will shortly. The network itself is superior to
Nextel's ever will be. I have been saying this, and stand by this,
customer service is superior so far. I've had to swap out two bad V60's
and customer service has been very good with this. I had the opportunity
to visit a Verizon store and wow, what a difference. A little training
will go a long way.

As far as the "delay" that was mentioned, I have noticed it too.
This afternoon the PTT network went down, and I admit I was pissed. When
it came up again, the delay between the time you press the PTT button,
and here the low bleeps seemed to be a lot less. Anyone else notice
this? I'd rather wait an extra second knowing i'm getting through than
hearing those annoying loud beeps.

you hear me now?" The commercial's only a one minute spot, you
know.....

Nextel would do very well to get a Verizon PTT phone and simply make a

Hello all

Like some people Said Verizon PTT will only work in the 1X market..
This market is lot smaller then nextel.. Lots of the Verizon markets
Dont have the 1x for PTT .. We have the updated map
