Re: general cellular question

Ummmm, no
how could you use the cell if it wasn't even activated. No carrier would see the phone on it's network !

Re: general cellular question

Sometimes you can. Try dialing the number. You may end up with a
message that you have reached the American Roaming Network, and need to
enter the number in which to call, then your credit card number. There
is no way to make a call on a cell phone with a calling card (unless
it's a prepaid card to use with a phone activated on a certain carrier).
I get the message about the American Roaming Network on my old
CellularOne (West) by Western Wireless phone.

Some time around Thu, 11 Sep 2003 09:20:12 -0500 (give or take a month), someone
called "Captain" <capn@charter.net> rambled on about:

I believe you can dial "911" without an active phone, but that is about it.

Re: general cellular question

i don't care about the carrier, afterall they would be charging my credit card, so no carrier needs to be worried, they would be reimbursed in some way, they make too much money anyways

You can make calls on a unactivated cell phones by using the American Roaming Network. This network uses provider's towers only for emergency calling or a expensive pay-by-minute use. American Roaming Network does accept Calling Cards and Credit Cards. They have very high charges though. It is almost as expensive as Verizon Airfone. $2.99 to connect and $1.99 a minute.
