It's not supposed to cost you anything except 2-1/2
hours wait while the number is ported from one carrier
to the other.

Re: cell telephone numbers
The number portabaility begins November 24th. However, Nextel is
offering to give you a temporary number after the 1st and then port your
old number to your new phone. This gives you the ability to change
service and to keep the same number before the 24th.

So if I want to switch to Nextel the 1st, I get a phone with a
temporary number, then the 24th drop the temporary number, and get my
number from say AT&T transfered?!
Wow. What a BARGAIN! I can pay for two carriers at the same time!
Reports I've seen in printed newspapers say Verizon and AT&T will be
the big winners, and Sprint & T-Mobile will be the losers in the WNP
game.

Re: cell telephone numbers
Most people I know will switch away from Nextel. They do not care about the
customer and will pay a heavy price unless they change their attitude quick.
I personally will leave them after six years due to their "cleaning-up" of
my account. I have two phones, so there goes two.

Re: cell telephone numbers
Nextel is already charging. It's a monthly fee included in everyone's bill.
