The whole idea behind a screen saver is to prevent "burn in,"
and was created for a CRT, not an LCD.
Unless your phone has a CRT(!), your "screen saver" is doing
nothing more than providing (simple) entertainment.

Plasma screens burn in too - it's a hoot when I see the BSOD burn-in on
airport displays.

Want to bet? We've got a number of Nextels with with "NEXTEL" etched
into them.

And the problem with entertainment is?
And just so you know, you're only half right. LCD's don't in fact
"burn-in" like CRTs. However, they do "fatigue" which has a similar
effect. Ever look at an old LCD digital watch? The contrast isn't as
great as it used to be for a reason.

Let me preface my response with, whoever the poster is (Lawrence Glass???),
took an old post of mine and rewrote it.
Is the reason for decreased contrast, in your example, caused by
"fatigue" or possibly an old battery?
I've had many any old LCD readout improved by a new battery.
As far as entertainment goes, I'm all for it... It's just that looking
at a phone's screensaver just doesn't quite do it for me! <g>

In that case, a dark screen is better than a "screen saver" screen.

No, you can put in a new battery and still get the same effect.
Granted, it takes longer than a CRT would, but it does happen. I
wouldn't say it's worth justifying a screen saver though. But hey, if
you like the way the screen saver looks, go for it.
