I recently purchased an i205 for use primarily as a way to get my
pda
on the internet while mobile and in remote locations. The other main
function I wanted it for was for GPS with TomTom2 and IPAQ HP2215
using a supplynet or gomadic cable. When I purchased
it, the salesman said it was gps enabled right out of the box and I'd
be good to go. After getting home and not being able to recieve any
position data, I called the customer service number where a very rude
woman said that I needed a 59.99 a month "special" package and it
would also require some sort of set up fee. I then went into a
different nextel store where the two salesmen behind the counter were
at least semi-honest with me and said they had no clue but my best
option would be to sign up for all sorts of various packages and one
of them might work.
If anyone has dealt with using their Nextel phone for GPS, I would
appreciate any info on which plans I should look into. Do I need a
telenav plan? Do i need the total connect data package? the 1mb or the
..5? Is there a better plan? Would going with someone else
(att, sprint, verizon) besides nextel be even easier and cheaper?
Thanks, calling and talking to these people in person is like beating
a dead horse to get directions to the local library. No two people
tell you the same, and most of the time they will just smile and ask
for a credit card while saying yes to any question you have, including
"will it do my laundry and end world hunger?
