nokia polyphonic ringtone format?

Does the Nokia 6100 and others use proprietary nokia polyphonic format or
normal midi files?

I ask because I tried beaming a midi file from a Sony Ericsson phone to a
Nokia and the 6100 just won't take the file.

The 6100 supports Scalable Polyphonic MIDI(SP-MIDI) format.
