Depends;
a mbus or a f/mbus cable can be used to upload ringtones/logos etc and
unlock
a fbus cable can only be used to upload ringtones/logo's etc

Simon - i just rechecked the info i got for cable and found the
following....
SPECIFICATION
a.. FBus / Mbus @ DAU - 9P compatible
b.. Standard 9 pin serial connection to PC / Laptop
c.. Transfer rate up to 115200 Kps -
I assume this means it will unlock - once i find some software..

Yes Dave, that cable will be fine for unlocking! Have a look for "b-phreaks
EEProm Tools v3.1".

Got hold of the software but when i run it, it reads phone info then when i
try to use the padlock icon to unlock it , it says "phone not connected"
damn.....any ideas

but i will now try and get the software to run in "windows 95" compatability
mode.

3310 unlocking tool
Try using Rollis Nokia Tools v1.8 (working with XP). I have used this program to unlock 3310s in our place with no problem. Use the Options/Autosetup to connect your phone. Have fun!
