I tried manually to enter a pic there from the Themes Menu (User Defined)
and the pic doesn't cover the entire space 167x176 but stays above the
rectangle with the name of the shortcut. The pic I try to insert is, of
course, 167x176 but it is being resized so it won't surpass the above stated
rectangle.
Is it a firmware error? The pics when I choose the various themes bundled
with the phone come OK. I haven't tried to install a complete downloaded
theme to see if it is a problem only with the manual insertion.
Anyone else noticed?

Yes. Very annoying.
I've not tried it myself, but intend to try getting one of the existing
wallpapers and editing and re-saving to see if that works.
Let me know if you get anywhere and will try myself if I get a chance
tonight.

I think the images of the Theme 1,2,3 alternatives are in the ROM section of
the phone so if you re-save them they will become normal (ie. like if
imported by us) images.
Of course, you don't have anything to lose in trying...
Yes, it's pretty annoying indeed and I don't know if there is a workaround
other than a firmware upgrade cause it is clearly a bug.

No, i dont think its a bug at all .. I'd say its a feature .. 90% of images
cover that area with darkness, and hence would make the controls virtually
impossible to read ..
So to save us from ourselves, they made it scale things to not cover the
menus ..
use the nokia theme maker program from forum.nokia.com to create a proper
"theme" file, which you can force to fit the whole screen, because its a
proper theme, hence they figure youv designed the image properly to allow
visible reading of the text for the buttons ..
I doubt you'll see this changed in a future firmware ..

I could live without this saving mechanism you know... this makes the whole
"User Defined" procedure useless. Afterall, I believed the imaged passed
BEHIND the rectangle and, moreover, any sensible background designer would
have guessed to place light colours in that area for the text of the buttons
to show.
Anyway, for me it's still a bug and I'll have to learn an
official/unofficial Theme creation program. Fortunately, I have two.
