The number 4 button on my 8290 has been getting progressively harder to
use. It's now to the point where I need to push about as hard as I can
to get it to work. Is there some simple way I can fix it or should I be
    calling Tmobile.

The front cover and keypad is replacable if you look on ebay get one that
includes the keypad. You could remove the pad by pushing the release at the
top of the phone and check for dirt. You could get a whole phone off ebay
    these are not very expensive.

I've tried the button with the face plate and rubber pad off and it's
    still hard to operate.

If you like the phone otherwise I picked up 6 for $20 on ebay, 5 of the 6
worked but were sim locked, data cable and software $10 and they are
unlocked. They are small and the RF seems very good. Keep a eye on ebay and
pick one up, if you are not a regular ebayer lookout for shipping cost and
    paid feedback.

I don't know anything about the seller or how hard this is to install but
this LCD looks like it includes the keypad.
