3310 wont work with any sim card

Ive just been given a 3310 that was used on vodafone tariff. The person who
gave it to me has a vodafone sim that works in it but my vodafone sim don't.
Another of my friends vodafone sim cards works in it but his sisters
vodafone sim don't. Anyone have any ideas what is happening

Hi Mike,
The handset is GID1 locked (the norm for Vodafone PAYT handsets). That means
that, without unlocking it, you can only use a Vodafone sim-card that is of
the same type/tariff as the one that originally came with the phone.
So I guess the only way to use it with your sim-card is by unlocking it. As
an aside, it will also work on all other networks.

What do you mean when you say it doesnt work? Do you get messages? No
signal?
