    Hi Folks -

I have a new 6800 phone, and am attempting to install PC Suite on my laptop
(New IBM T30 with built in USB)...

I have phone on and the USB connector connected to it, and connected to the
USB port on the back of the laptop (there are two USB ports on my machine,
they are enabled - i use them all the time with laplink)...

Anyway, when I start the PC Suite 5.12 setup program, it asks me if would
like to setup a modem for USB or for infrared or both - I uncheck infrared,
leave USB checked and click proceed... then the program proceeds to attempt
to detect the phone (which is connected via the nokia usb cable to the
phone) and after 2 minutes, it fails to find the phone. This is frustrating,
I am stuck at the gate, and cannot install this software!

    Any help?

    Tom

ps. Even the phone recognizes that it is connected because it's screen says
"data accessory connected" when I plug the cable into it! This is so
    frustrating.

    Re: PC Suite Help!

I understand that my phone is different and that I used a serial cable
from the phone to the laptop, but this is what I did and hopefully it
    will help.
I have a Nokia 6340i and have been able to connect to my IBM laptop.
If the phone was not detected,I would turn the phone off and then back
on, or I would unplug the cable. If that did not work, I would shut
the IBM off then on. In the control panel, within Modem, is the phone
modem listed? After all programs were loaded, I opened up Nokia
Connection Manager and I had to click OFF the Cable and IR also Click
OFF the phone from being detected. SOUNDS NUTS, but that was the only
way that the IBM would recognize the cable in Com Port 1. I signed up
for the internet with cingular "no cost", but I just plug the cable in
the phone and click on the the internet program on my IBM . I am now
on line with Earthlink also with an Intranet program. Good Luck.

    Please RTFM.
You have to install the driver for your data-cable even if it is USB.
Then you can install the PC Suite (meaning you'll have to unsinstall it
    before doing the full process).
That is written in capitals in the manual.

That just means that there is current going through the cable : in other
words, it means your USB port works fine, but does not give you any clue
    about the software stuff.
