I can't quite believe that you need a bluetooth-enabled PC to do
things like calendar synchronization and app downloads for the N-Gage!

My PC does not have bluetooth - exactly what will I not be able to do?
I would really like the n-gage, but not if I can only use a fraction
    of its capabilities.

    Thanks

You can buy a bluetooth-USB adaptor.

    Or get a diff phone.

    Them's the options.

Infared? Data cable? pretty much exactly the same things thats always been
done with mobile phones to sync em?

Bluetooth is just an extra way to do it .. and dont be cheap, get a USB
bluetooth dongle .. cheap as anything, easy to find and a LOT more fun than
    either of the other methods.

N-Gage does not support infrared data access (IrDA) and it does not have the
proprietary Nokia Pop-Port for DKU-x data cables. The only option for data
    synchronization etc is Bluetooth.

Here in Finland prices of USB Bluetooth adapters start from 30-40 euros
which I find quite reasonable considering that you can use if future phones
    and other mobile devices too.

And in addition the Nokia PC Suite does not support the data cable that
    comes with the N-Gage.

The 6600 doesnt have a pop-port either, but you can work with it via a
non-nokia data cable .. ugly connection method, but appears to work. You
have to use something like OPM or MobiMB to work with backing up and syncing
your data tho, PC Suite wont work via it.

    Re: N-gage without bluetooth?

I cant believe not a single Nokia phone ever came with a datacable (well
maybe 1 or 2, correct me if im wrong)....

you HAVE to buy the datacable for nokias ...so whats the difference...

you can get a bluetooth dongle for just over 50 (au) bucks now! so just
imagine that bluetooth is a nice black cable....ok...

buy a bluetooth adaptor ya cheapskate....

    cheers

I guess - I'm coming at it from the PDA side, more than the cellphone
side, and PDAs always come with a cable (be it USB, or a hotsynch
cable, or whatever). Bluetooth dongles are probably pretty expensive
here in SA, and considering the n-gage is free on a contract that I
wouldn't have bothered with normally, I don't really want to shell out
    more.

I was just wondering exactly what I would and wouldn't be able to
    without bluetooth.

    Re: N-gage without bluetooth?

Cruise the net, backup your phone, browse and manipulate almost all files
(except the currently opened ones), transfer files etc....honestly
everything a COM datacable can do and a little more....

    cheers

How does the service centre then upgrade the firmware of the phone?
