I have Nokia PC Suite 5 for my Nokia 6100. I used to have a laptop with
infra-red and had no problems transferring data. Now I have a PC (Win XP
    Home) and a USB infra-red adaptor (SigmaTel USB-IrDA Dongle #2). I
installed the Software and was able to start this up ok, but it doesn't
    recognise my phone.

When putting the phone near the infra-red adaptor, a symbol appears in the
system tray identifiying my 6100. After a while, a message appears: "Your
link is either blocked or the device has moved out of range" and the icon
changes to a broken link picture - even when I do not touch/move the phone.
Sometimes it will recognise the phone again and then after a while the icon
might disappear completely from the system tray.

I tried going to Settings > Connection and selecting 'Nokia 6100' but I
still cannot access my details using the software. What am I doing wrong?

Try to change "emulator/dongle type" in device manager page of the sigmatel
adapter to Sigmatel 4000 type. also max speed to 115K

Good to hear that - I also thought that because ur IR adapter is the real mc
coy (Sigmatel), there wont be much problems. (The adapter setting is the
first thing to check if anyone has a IR prob)
