Dear all,
Just a quick message to let you know that eGenie v0.4.19 has been
released. For those of you that don't know, eGenie is a free windows
interface to the O2 web-based SMS service and offers a couple of nice
additional features (message spanning, signatures, multiple
recipients, address book and more).
In this release:
- Quota checking is (finally) fixed.
- Support for proxy servers that require authentication is addded.
- A spiffy new splash screen picture has been added.
- A few additional bugs squashed.
You can get it from http://egenie.wibble.org.uk
In addition, for those of you who like living life "on a edge" a
little, version 0.2.0 of Mercury (the sucessor to eGenie) is now
available to test. You need to be pretty confident with Windows, zip
files and prepared to put up with the odd bug or ten but it has quite
a few more features that eGenie and can support multiple SMS gateways
(so far only O2 free and paid, but sms.ac is coming this week). In
fact, I don't use eGenie any more because I prefer Mercury's user
interface.
You can get that from http://www.mercury.uk.net (sign up for the forum
and details can be found there).
As you probably have guessed, at some point in the future I'll be
dropping eGenie for Mercury, so if you want to influence the way
Mercury looks and feels, now is a good a time as any.
Steve Terry, as one of eGenie's biggest advocates, I'd love to hear
your feedback on Mercury )
Regards,
Richard.

Love to if I have time, trawling the NGs seems to take up all of my spare time
as it is.
I have every confidence it'll be as successful as eGenie
Good luck with it

How about 118.com as well, given it's free.

Mercury took 100% of my cpu in task manager. My laptop fan was working
overtime because of it.

Indeed. I've been given plenty of suggestions and they all can be
easily written as a gateway definition file which Mercury uses.
If anyone fancies a go at doing so, let me know and I'll write a
primer on the forum. Otherwise I'll add it to the long list of
requests and it'll be done at some point.
Regards,
Richard.

Yeah, I second that. And it seems like free SMS is coming back into vogue -
it's a shame 1rstWap don't seem to like sending to Orange for free as I
rather liked the "Flash Message" option...
