Hi
I have recently purchased a brand new nokia 6820. I choose this phone
for may reasons one of them being the bluetooth option. However on
trying to search and pair with other mobile phones I ran into
problems.
Sitting next to someone with a Sony T610 who had their bluetooth
switched on I tried to search for available devices to connect with
only to get a message "no devices found". When the sony tries to
discover me it can with no problems and if I give it access can search
my phone for images and ringtones etc. When connected to the sony this
way I have no options to look into his phone only to disconnect.
On speaking to my network provider (Vodafone) about this issue they
were more than a little bit hazy and gave me the possibility that the
nokia 6820 can only connect with audio devices and not other mobiles.
On asking them to find out for certain and let me know, they have
conveniently forgotten to call me back.
Can soneone please let me know if this is the case. Can the nokia 6820
only connect to suitable auido devices, or if it can connect with
other mobiles what am I doing wrong?

Re: Nokia 6820 - Bluetooth Connectivity
On my 6820, there is a Bluetooth On/Off option, but in addition to that,
there is a "My Phone's Visibility" On/Off option. Maybe the Sony
mentioned in your post has his Bluetooth On and his Visibility Off, so
he could find you, but you could not find him. Did the Sony user you
were next to seem to know his phone and its options well?

Re: Nokia 6820 - Bluetooth Connectivity
My phones bluetooth is definately switched on as well as the
visibility. Not sure whether or not my friends sony T610 has the
visibility option or not. I shall have a look in more detail at his
phone later on. Have you experienced the same issues with your
bluetooth?

Re: Nokia 6820 - Bluetooth Connectivity
If your friend's visibility is OFF (but his Bluetooth is ON) then he
can see you but you can not see him. That kind of sounds like what you
might be experiencing. That is what I experience when I am with someone
whose visibility is OFF.
Your visibility is ON so he can see you, but his is OFF so you can not
find him.

I have no trouble finding my 6310i's when sending business cards so
long as they are not 'hidden' but you don't need to pair for that. I
can pair OK with PC or PDA, but don't know about other BT phones. I
would guess they would have to allow OBEX file transfer in which case
the T610 does, but it needs to be visible to pair, once paired it
doesn't matter.

Re: Nokia 6820 - Bluetooth Connectivity
I spoke to Nokia about this and they were pretty useless. They
basically said that it sounds like there is a problem with the handset
and that they would replace it.
Before sending my nokia back for an exact replica I thought I'd go
into a mobile shop and test out another Nokia 6820. As feared the
shop's model could not 'find' other mobiles either, but both Nokias
had no problems discovering bluetooth headsets.
So for anyone who would like the luxuary of searching and sending info
to unsuspecting bluetooth users, please look away from the 6820.
