Is this a good device, or is it flimsy device. I have heard several things
about it, and I want to know if the device is reliable, and how th quality
of the sound, etc is on the device. Also, with the flip that turns to a
keyboard, is that flimsy or lose, or would it be sturdy?

    Thanks

My experience was that the 6800 was sturdy and felt reliable. I treated it
harshly, but the opening flip doesn't break easily. Display quality and size
was quite OK, although not as good as you get from Samsung nowadays. The
email client in 6800 is SLOW and awkward to use, but there are better ones
available as 3rd party Java midlets, such as the ReqWireless WebViewer (
    http://www.reqwireless.com/webviewer.html ).

I'd personally go for the 6810 or 6820, because the 6800 lacks Bluetooth, an
essential feature for a laptop or PDA user.

And I'd like to add that I didn't have any problems with sound quality. The
speaker feature is very handy, because you can keep for example write notes
in QWERTY mode or browse your address book during a phone call.

Better off with the 6820, as its got camera and bluetooth, but no radio.

It is surprisingly light (compared to 3310 or 5510) and very very sturdy.

I can't fault it.The sound is good, although the loud speaker doesn't pick
up your voice very well if pointed in the wrong direction.

    Re: Nokia 6800 Question

I had to have my 6800 replaced within a week of owning it, as the front
keypad quit working, for no apparent reason. I consider this phone
semi-fragile and suggest care in handling.

I have had one for over 6 months and it seems sturdy enough.
I use the keyboard a lot for SMS and sometimes email and it is very good - I
find it really hard to go back to a normal phone keyboard now.
    The hinge system seems strong.
The phone keys are not as positive as my older Nokias but that seems the
case on lots of newer phones.

    Weaknesses:
    - no bluetooth or camera
    - email is slow and cannot handle all sorts of incoming messages - some HTML
not decoded, long messages can't be read and of course attachments are not
handled. It is fine for sending text email.
    - There is also a strange limit of 50 incoming emails. Even if you read 50
and delete them, you cannot download more from a POP server until those
first 50 have been removed from the POP server. This doesn't often bother
me, but it means I could not depend on using just the phone for email on a
trip of a few days. I hit the 50 limit in about a day.
    - there are limitations in replication with Outlook on a PC e.g. limit of
500 contacts, some contact data is truncated, limited number of Notes
    replicated.

These memory limitations are annoying as I still have 3MB memory free which
I cannot use for addreses etc; I suppose it is reserved for add-on
applications which I do not want.

Despite the limitations I still find it the best phone I have used,
especially as I SMS a lot and email sometimes, and also sometimes take notes
on the phone. For me the main alternative would be a Nokia Communicator but
    they are expensive and big.

The 6820 recommended by others has a camera and bluetooth but it is smaller.
A friend and I both could not manage with the very small phone keypad. I
suppose it depends on how fat your fingers are

    Re: Nokia 6800 Question

I've had a 6800 for about a year now and use the flip open keyboard
    for all text messaging.

Wouldn't be without it and the flip is as firm now as it was on day
    one.

    I agree - I have the 6820 and it's a great phone. Definately a mistake not
    including a radio though.

I have a radio in my pickup, my wifes car, my Mustang, my house, at work, <I
could go on>. Why on earth does someone want a radio on their phone.

"Hello, wait a minute, I can't hear you, let me turn the radio down!" I can see
it now - driver kills 5 while adjusting radio on cell phone while trying to
    talk on cell phone!

Man, I can see it now.

Subway driver fails to stop train while trying to adjust his radio on his cell
phone while talking on his cell phone! Hundreds injured.

Some of us also have to endure half hour bus rides in a dino of a bus (all
twelve that run the route to my place are all dinos, with varying air-cond.
    efficiency)

well, the driver on the bus always puts on the station which i dont like...
I'm Chinese and he puts on an Indian station... so having my own "personal"
station choice thru my phone is great.

The radio cuts out on the mobile once there is a phone call.

I never use the subway (there isn't one), but if I ever saw a subway driver
on a mobile phone while driving I'd hope he'd get the sack.

And again, the radio cuts out when there is a phone call.

I do believe the radio is more for those who prehaps walk or take a bus and
don't want to hear the innate chatter of people like yourself.
