Erm...why do you want to *emulate* a modem ? The phone either has modem
capabilities or it don't.

I was told that the phone didn't have an internal modem, but I need to
connect my laptop to it, so I'm looking for a way around the problem.

Yup the 3200 does NOT have modem capabilities. I know it has iRDA
capabilities, but that's only for unloading/downloading ringtones,
wallpaper, midlets, pictures, etc.
IMHO this handset is basically a *fashion* item, and not a business
phone. Which is probably why Nokia seen fit not to bother with an internal
modem on the 3200.

You can't. You'll have to get a handset which has an internal modem,
such as the Nokia 6100 or 6310i.
A handset's internal modem is implemented in firmware, and can NOT be
added via a Java midlet.

OK, I'll give up on the midlet. Can't I just open the mobile phone as a
port on the computer and send AT, or similar 'mobile phone type'
commands down it?
[Cutnpaste from another thread]
I heard that if I connected a USB cable to the 3200 and ran a data-cable
driver down it then it might work?

You can try if you want...but you would be flogging a dead horse.
Get this...THE NOKIA 3200 DOES NOT HAVE AN INTERNAL MODEM...and nor will
it ever have.
AFAIK most of the Nokia *fashion* orientated handsets do NOT have modem
capabilities.

Nope. That't just another way of transferring ringtones, photos, midlets,
etc. to and from the phone.

I got it. I give up.
I think that I can sell my Nokia to a collegue who has not need for a
internal modem and move back to my Ericsson.

Yes, indeed. I'm seemingly the only person who is quite comfortable with
this phone, I just love it. If I was a business user though I'm sure I would
be a little miffed....but I'd have got a 6100 if I was. I heartily recommend
it to anyone who is comfortable with it's lack of a modem and more memory,
especially if like me you like things that are a little different...and
let's face it, this phone *is* bloody different. :-)
