Re: 6820
Hi. I recently change to a 6820 from a 6800
The usual 68xx features are great. The full keyboard makes life so
much easier.
My criticisms of the 6820 specifically are:
1) The camera is very poor. Images are usually blurred.
2) Its not as good as the 6800 at finding a signal. I live in a poor
reception area (for vodafone) and this phone often struggles to find a
signal. Interestingly it manages this better with the keyboard open!!
Cheers,
JohnK

Re: 6820
ive had one for about 4 months now and find it very good
i accidently dropped it and it landed face side down on a large piece of
metal
it was only a week old, so i was well impressed that it hadnt a scratch and
works fine.
the bluetooth is handy and the keyboard is good as long as your fingers arnt
to large.

I'm very happy with mine, a radio would be more useful than a camera though,
particularly as the phone comes with a hands free kit.

Very good handset, has a few minor irritations with the standard email
client (notably lack of delete from server), but apart from that it's A1
standard.
Suprising for a Nokia if I say so myself - 6230 anyone? That's more like it

Re: 6820
Hi Jon,
I am reasonable happy with my 6820 phone, but the Nokia PC Suite software
on Bluetooth is a disaster. Very, very unreliable. Sometimes connects,
mostly not.
And worse, Nokia helpdesk refuses to provide any assistence, except:
please re-install your software (yeah, twice every day??).
Oh, and the sync manager refuses to download any todo's, complaining
my phone's memory is full, which it clearly isn't. Again: no help from Nokia.
Success, Paul.

I have the 6800 - same software I think, but no cameral and no Bluetooth,
but with a larger keyboard (much better for the fat fingered) and a radio
(only works well with strong signal)
There are several other "memory" limits imposed by the software which have
nothing to do with the phone's memory really being being full:
- a maximum of 500 contacts in the address book
- some data in Contacts data is not downloaded from the PC, eg. long
addresses or notes
- some limit on the number of "Notes"; it seems to be about 20; Nokia will
not say what it is.
- 50 incoming email messages; even if you read and delete the first 50 you
cannot download anymore until the first 50 are deleted from your POP server,
which you cannot do with the phone; for me this means I can only use it for
reading mail for under one day, then I have to use a computer
- cannot download long emails (I don't know the size limit)
For some people these limits may not be an issue
It is really annoying as I still have over 3MB free which is never used
(reserved for games I suppose?). Nokia do not seem interested in these
issues though it puts put many people off buying these otherwise excellent
phones. (Several friends of mine have not bought them because of these
limitations)
Some other limits:
- cannot read some HTML email formats, though it can read others
- cannot down load email attachments
It is still a good phone, great for sending SMS and short emails. But it
would be so much better if the memory limitations could be changed with a
software upgrade.

I believe that problem has been fixed with the latest version.
Have you downloaded from nokia.com (which should solve the problem)? Or are
you using the in-box CD?

No, it is not fixed, and probably never will since Nokia doesn't listen
to any complaints... Sorry, but that's how it is. No replies on E-mails,
no response when calling. And I'm not alone on this, just read the newsgroups...

using 6.2.

There are some memory limits on the phone even when you have plenty of free
memory.
The number of contacts is limited to 500 (and not all contact data detail is
downloaded from Outlook, eg. long addresses are cut); there is a limit on
Notes - about 20 I think. There are also some limits on the number of
appointments etc but I cannot find out what they are. Incoming email
messages are limited to 50. There are some other limits I think.
I have about 3MB of free memory on my phone (a 6800 not 6820 but I think the
software and limitations are the same) but it cannot be used for extra
Contracts data etc. This memory seems to be reserved for other extra
applications, e.g. games, which I do not want. Very iritating.
I wrote to Nokia about it. They did respond but offered no solutions and did
not seem interested.
I dont think the PC Suite software version will affect these limits which
are controlled by the phone's software. My phone's contact data is full and
to add a new contact I have to delete another first. If there are more than
500 contacts in Outlook, those after 500 simply do not transfer to the
phone.
I do not use Bluetooth but my infra-red link works fine.

The similar 6800 has an FM radio but no camera (and no Bluetooth). The sound
quality is good but it only works well with a strong signal - not good on
long train journeys.
The 6800 is bigger, and I prefer the larger keypad, easier for me than the
6820.

Same with the 6320. Windows XP can natively transfer files via bluetooth to
the phone and back, but PC Suite works only once in a blue moon. Most apps
hang, or when closed, loiter in memory still.
