Orange have the best deals at the minute for new connections. Money back
and credit galore. Ask about square deals too and you'll be laughing.

Potentially, although you can usually transfer your number too if you
move to another network.

I'd suggest you ask that question of Vodafone rather than here. I
don't know their policy on upgrades but Orange and O2 will match the
price of a new contract so it might be worth contacting Vodafone and
pointing out the new contract is cheaper than the upgrade.

If they decline tell them you're going to move to another network and
ask for a PAC (porting authorisation code) which you will need anyway
if you do end up moving and keeping your existing phone number, but
will also suggest you're serious about leaving so they may be more
inclined to offer you some incentive not to. Most networks will match
the best offer on any other network or, at very least, their own
introductory offers to prevent customers from moving to a competitor.
