I'll preface this by saying I have very old firmware (the October 2003
variety I believe) but just wanted to see if anyone else experienced the
same kind of crash I just had.
Well, not so much just had, but seemingly had about 8 hours ago and didn't
notice!
My phone sits on my desk at work and unless it rings or I get a message I
don't even look at it.
I picked it up just before and it had the screensaver date and time on it,
but the screen was dark and it wasn't moving. Pressing the buttons did
nothing. OS crash obviously.
So I press the off button, hold it, hold it, hold it and it does nothing. I
try this several times.
Take off back cover, pull battery out. Screen goes blank finally. Put
battery back in, press the on button and it boots up.
Now, I charged it overnight and it was fully charged. On reboot it has just
3 bars left.
So whatever went wrong it chewed up plenty of battery in the process.
To summarise:
- OS crash
- off button didn't work
- pulled battery out and put it back in
- phone booted up
- battery more than 50% sucked dry
I'll be getting the firmware updated soon enough. It's only a month old, I
just haven't got around to it.
Anyone had anything similar?

Hey... it says that the Nokia 6600 has a firmware version 5.24.1 (date
is 8 june 2004)
If I go to a "Nokia Care" shop (service center), can I get it updated ?
Well... is that version worth updated ?
