nokia 6220- very dark screen in standby

is there any way other than lightening the
screen ( contrast for example?)
which i have done
to make the display brightness decent enough to
see screen in standby, that is to make it more easily viewable?

in standby mode i can barely see the display.

out in the sun even when
in active mode,
the display is very difficult to view.
