I have been toying with the idea of buying a sonyericsson p900 off ebay.
What is the story with the sellers, 95% of them have zero feedback?

Always, ALWAYS read the feedback. I'd never buy a high value item from a
low or 0 rated seller, and I'd always have a look at their previous auctions
and actually read the feedback comments (not just the negs) before placing a
    bid.

Exercise caution and common sense, and you'll be ok.

Excellent advise and I couldn't agree more but what I meant was the
percentage of P900 sellers with 0 feedback is incredibly high. More so than
for any other item I have seen on Ebay.

That's a touch unfair on those of us who don't use eBay much. I've been a
registered user for 2 years but my feedback is only 6, simply because I
don't use it a lot, only when I have to. But check out my feedback and you
will see that low as it is, it is 100% positive. I always give a phone
number if selling so you can call me to ask questions and if you're local
I am prepared to either let you visit me to collect or I'll come to you.

When I'm buying I do indeed excercise caution and as a rule only buy from
sellers who meet similar criteria to mine - on a couple of occasions I've
visited the seller personally to collect.

Of course, but don't penalise low system users. A zero rated seller will
be zero until someone trusts them.

All fair points, and when buying anything of value, if possible it's a good
idea to enquire if you can collect in person (even if you don't intend to -
but if possible on high value items, it's always preferable to collect
them). If the seller refuses, to me that sounds warning bells and I'll look
    elsewhere.

Absolutely, but would you be happy buying a high value item off a zero
feedback seller that lived at the other end of the country? Feedback is a
good indication of how a seller performs (but don't go off the numbers,
actually read the feedback), and I'd have no problem buying lower value
items off zero feedback sellers (and have done several times), but I
wouldn't touch them with a bargepole for high value stuff unless I was able
to collect in person from their home or business address (i.e. not in a pub
    somewhere).
