I have a question, tho: I live in USA & have a Nokia 3589i with
VerizonWireless account. "NOKIA UNLOCK" sez I should discover

"IMEI number of the phone (can be view by typing *#06#)"

Hey, it' doesn't work.

Is this a GSM-only thing?

Do CDMA not respond to *#06# & similar codes I've read about?

It does with me, are you sure you're entering it right? Type it as if you
were going to dial a number... *#06# and your phone should display the
serial number (which is the IMEI number).

It's also usually on a sticker behind your battery, it begins usually with
35...

> Is this a GSM-only thing?

No, it's not related to the network technology used, it's a Nokia thing,
which has been picked up by other phone companies to standardise the way you
retrieve your IMEI number.

Wotch Mole!

You might want to have a look at the site, it's running like treacle on a
particularly cold day.

All mine does in try to actually dial the number, which gets me a
recorded message to hang up & try again.

I don't mean to be patronising, but you ARE dialling it correctly yeah? You
have to do this from the main screen, so press the hang-up button lots to
return there. Then press the * key, # key, 0 key, 6 key, then finally the #
key. As soon as you hit the # key at the end the screen SHOULD display your
IMEI number. You don't ever actually phone the number (by pressing the green
phone/call button).

If you've done it as above and you don't get your IMEI number then I don't
know what to say. I've never come across a Nokia phone that doesn't do this.

This is exactly what I did...when I hit the 2nd # key it just stares
at me doing nothing.

I wonder if it has something to do with phones sold for use in USA.

I can't comment on this model of phone directly, but I'd imagine it must be.

Your IMEI number is also written on the back of your phone behind the
battery. It's one of the bar codes.
