#1 | | Guest | I have a Nokia CARK-142 I am trying to install. From what I
understand I need to connect the following wires:
Red: Constant 12V source
Black: Ground
Blue: Ingition
Yellow: Radio Mute
I don't really care about the yellow wire. I figured the easiest
thing for the red and black would be to tap off of the radio? Is that
the best idea?
As for the blue ignition wire, do I really need that? If I don't plan
on leaving the phone on in the car with the car off, do I really need
it? Can I just connect the blue wire with the same 12V source as the
red wire? Does the carkit itself without a phone on it draw current
that would drain my battery with the car off?
Any advice?
Thanks,
Matt

#2 | | Guest | That's what I did with mine. what the switched power does is turn off the
power to the phone about two or three minutes after you turn off the
ignition, gives you that time to complete your call. I have a different kit,
but the same wiring. Just be sure to tape yellow wire if you don't use it.

#3 | | Guest | Hi Matt,
Recommend that you connect the blue wire to a terminal that works through
the ignition switch. This should prevent discharge of your battery when the
engine is turned off. I ran mine back to the terminal block and included
the recommended fuse.
The black wire can be connected to any ground connection, locate a metal
screw that is threaded into metal such as the frame.
The red wire can be connected to any terminal that is always hot. I ran
mine back to the terminal block and included the recommended fuse.
The mute feature of the yellow wire can be very nice but locating a
connection for it is difficult.
Good luck,
Charlie

#4 | | Guest | If he only has the phone in the cradle when he is in the car, as I do, it
really doesn't matter which way the blue wire is connected. If he wants to
be able to continue a conversation in the car after he turns the ignition
off, it should go to hot instead of switched, otherwise it really doesn't
matter. There is no current draw if there is no phone in the cradle.
You are 100% correct on connecting the red and black.

#6 | | Guest | If his radio has a connection coming out of it for the mute then it will
work If the radio doesn't, then it won't.
