Is there a way to send text messages via bluetooth with my 6600?

Trouble with that is, the recipient doesn't get an alert that a message is
coming in.

Its not true.Recipient HAS to except a bluetooth call..

(assuming you mean accept...) When someone tries to send me a file via
bluetooth, my 6600 displays a pop-up message along the lines of "Accept
bluetooth transfer from <name>?" I have the option to accept or decline.

But if the phone's in my pocket, I won't know anything about it anyway, which
was really my point. There's no alert to tell me someone's trying to send
something in the first place.
