I admit to being a complete novice as far as cellphones are concerned.

    I recently baught a s/h 6600, supposedly with an O2 PAYG sim.
The phone arrived with a T-Mobile sim fitted and a separate O2 sim.
With the T-Mobile sim the phone picks up a strong signal, but presumably
because I don't have an account, and the phone is no longer registered with
them, I can't actually use it.
Fitting the O2 sim resulted in the message 'SIM card registration failed'
I get the same message using the O2 sim from my working phone.
I assume this means that the phone is locked to T-Mobile.

A phone sold with an O2 PAYG sim that can't use the sim, and locked to
    T-Mobile.
It all seems a little fishy to me.

How can I check that it is not stolen. Extract the phones reg'n no,
    whatever.
And will unlocking remove the password that is preventing me from deleting
the name 'Marie' from the screensaver.
I've tried 12345, so it would appear that the default password has been
    changed.
Finally, the name of a reputable unlocking service in the uk.
    Mike.

if you go to the downloads section you can get the software to generate
the unlock code so you can use the phone on ANY UK network (trust me the
software on this site does work !!)
You want DCT4 Code Calculator (the first download on the page I beleive)

Put the T-Mobile sim in the phone and turn it on
Once the phone has 'booted' key in *#06#
The IMEI number (serial number) will be displayed, write that down
Turn the phone off and remove the sim then put the phone back together
WITHOUT the sim and turn it on
On your PC unzip and run the code calculator program
    Type in your IMEI number
Set the Country to United Kingdom
Set the operator to T-Mobile (one 2 One)then click on the Calculate button
You'll get a list of numbers on the right hand side Pick any one of
these and key the number (ie #pw703474297364192+5# ) into your phone
and that should be it. The phone should show something such as "Sim
    restriction off"
Leave the phone alone for about 1 minute then turn it off Insert your
new sim and put the phone back together again and turn it on
    That should be it !
    Saved you about £10 -15 !
I eBayed my 6600 and had the same prob unfortunately for me the TW*T I
bought it from also set the phones locks and the MMC locks so the phone
was completely useless to me, repeated emails done absolutely **(k all
so I had to get the phone unlocked at my nearest Nokia Service Centre
and for £15 they unlocked all but the MMC and the firmware was upgraded
aswell so I didn't loose out at all in the end

    Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I have since found out that the phone is barred, or
    blacklisted.
ATM I'm in the process of trying to get my money back. :-(
Thanks for the URL, and useful info though.
    Mike.
