Anyone any idea of the latest s/w for the 6230, and what the improvements
are?

You don't always need to take your receipt along either. The Nokia
service centre can scan the phone barcode and get the manufacturing
date off that. Their warranty is 15 months from the manufacturing date
or 12 months from date of purchase, whichever is valid.
