(Excuse me, it seems this message would go into a new thread, but
that's because I was having some troubles with posting a reply.)

    Hi Chris,
I had already checked the manual. Ofcourse the phone was not meant
for Europe, it was just for India. But I talked to service center in
Brussels(Belgium) and they kind of transferred the warranty for me. My
query was why is not 'technically' possible to reflash a phone in
Belgium, which was originally bought in India. The warranty is not my
concern. I can even pay for a repair if need be. But question is is it
not at all possible to get a reflash in Belgium. I mean how does it
matter at all which country the phone was bought!! Its like you buy a
Laptop in India, but want to reformat and put Windows on it in Belgium
or any other country!! Should it make any difference!!??

If you check the manual regarding warranty you will see it states what
country the warranty is valid for your phone and they can tell from
the IMEI which country your phone was made for....

As I mentioned the phones IMEI identifies the country of origin and it
may be that the software used to do the upgrade is reading this info
and saying its not under warranty but as you say you should be able to
overide that if you are prepared to pay. I am aware that some service
centres will only flash an Orange customised phone with Orange
software although my particular centre reflased with the standrard
firmware which removed the crippled Orange version.
What reason have they given for not being able to do it. In the UK
Nokia have a mail in service centre. Is there not the same thing in
Belgium where you could perhaps contact them first and ask about your
    particular problem.
