Results 1 to 5 of 5

With reference to a post I made yesterday, I have been googling like mad
trying to get a definitive answer:
I believe I have unlocked my (Orange UK) 6600 handset using DCT Calculator -
i put in the details, it generated the codes - i used code 5 *only* (first
time), and got a "Sim restriction removed" (or a message like that).
So I assume I am successful??
After a bit of googling, I now read that
Orange requires 2 unlock codes...
...that these two codes are code 1 and code 2...
... or code 7 first then code 5...
....but then, code 5 is equivalent to putting in code 1 and 2 anyway
I cannot get code 7 to work at all, either with or without a simcard
installed (as per unlockme.co.uk instructions)
and I have tried a few time with code 7 (assuming mistakes were made)
Does the fact that code 5 worked before I tried code 7 (or 1 or 2) mean I
have screwed it up?
I have had a few goes at unlocking and the phone still works OK on orange,
but on the two other sims tried (voda and 3) it still doesn't work (ie. not
booting or crashing). I am now concerned about trying any more unlock
attempts!
I need a definitive answer from someone who has successfully done this.
Thanks

Re: 6600 unlock question
i have succesfully unlocked 2 6600's both locked onto orange.(UK). You
must use BOTH locks 1 + 5 other wise you will still get the sim
restriction off message but phone will still be locked. (Orange lock
with both locks 1 + 5 on all their phones.)
Also when you have succesfully unlocked your 6600 with other sims in it
you will get a message on the phone saying you need to set an access
point(I know this because it happened with both phones and have seen it
on numerous forums.). even when you have set correct access points it
will still keep coming up with select access points message. After
months of searching for the answer i found the only way to get rid of
this message is to format the phone. it will not reset the SP locks so
your phone will still be unlocked BUT you must make sure you have a
backup off all your photos and personal ringtone and videos etc as all
these will be deleted.
It may take a few attempts to format phone as it can be tricky to hold
all buttons. to format phone turn off phone hold green button * button
and the number 3 all at the same time. without letting go of these
buttons you must switch the phone on(i wasn't joking when i said it may
take a few goes). after a few seconds you will see the screen go white
and it will say formating once this has come up on the screen you may
let go of the buttons it will take about a minute and then the phone
will be fixed).
Sorry to go on and i know you didn't ask about the SELECT ACCESS POINT
problem but i know for a fact once you have unlocked it you will have
this problem and it will keep coming up on the screen and this is the
solution. ;}
Ps please let me know via this thread if this has been any help to you.
any other problems just ask.

Hi Matte
Thanks for your help.
I have to say that I am "scared" to attempt anymore codes. It was just that
I read so many stories etc. I just wanted a definitive answer.
Like I posted before, I put in a code 5, and I have had about 4 goes with
code 7(!). The reson is trying it once (error), assuming a mistake tried
again (error), tried without a sim card inserted (error), tried code 5 again
(success!), tried code 7 again (error).
I am winging it a bit to try my luck and now attempt a code 1.
If I did a code 1 and the sim-lock failed, I would have to "cable job" it.
How much would that cost?!?
Would the phone even be useable?!? (I understand it can, but I don't want
to risk it).
Thanks again.

I have tried Voda (reset once you try and access the icons/menu - or, with
the shortcut button to the left of the joystick resets if you try to get to
my contacts) - basically voda is a no no!
I have tried my new 3 sim - wont even start up - hangs on Nokia wording (as
the keypad lights up) at boot time.
I tried a T-Mobile sim - and it sorta works. Didn't seem to at first - a
hang/delay as you try to access the menus - but did a "switch task" to go
back to the phone, then tried the menu again and it went in. There were no
contacts listed, but I assume that the contacts were not stored on the sim.
looked at "trycktill" - didn't really clear things up for me - they
mentioned 4 codes are required!!! Jeez - it gets worse!
And that code 7 does all four required codes at once. (But that didn't work
for me)
Thanks for your help.
