Deactivate or remove phone number

I have a Nokia 1260 cell phone that I am going to get rid of after replacing
it with a new cell phone. I kept my old number when I changed to the new
phone. I should like to delete "my own phone number" on the old Nokia 1260
before I pass it along to other hands. Can anyone tell me how to do this
(and if you can, please do)?

Remove the sim card three times, say the magic words and hey presto! it'll
have disappeared.
