I am looking for a gsm cell phone that

    (1) I can buy in US/Canada
    (2) Use it in UK and India (900/1800 bands)
    (3) Should have good signal, light weight, battery performance
    (4) Sould have 4-way scrolling for text messaging.

Camera, web, email etc are not required. Nor are US frequency bands.
(Of course such features won't bother me either if I found a model with
    good price on ebay.)

Ebay listings keep bringing up model #s like Nokia 6610, 6100, 7210.
How do they compare with one another? (I have used 6610 but don't know
    others).

    Would you recommed another model?

I have only had Nokia phones so far and am used to their interface, but
    non-Nokia recommendations welcome as well.

    Many thanks.

Was something wrong with all the advice you got in the other thread you
    posted asking the same questions?

One problem with not knowing anything is you don't even know to
ask the right questions at first. I don't mean offence to anyone who
gave well-meant advice. Please think of it as a clarifying question.

The earlier thread produced recommendations for models available in UK,
not North America. Only after pondering that option did I realize want
to buy my phone before leaving and if I buy at eBay, to put money into
better model rather than higher shipping charges.

Similarly, only after considering the models lacking 4-way scroll did I
realize how much I had used it and wanted it.

Price is certainly attractive. But will the phone be unlocked? One
reason I want to buy before traveling is that now I have the time and
resources to deal with such issues. Once I am traveling, I will have
less time, no internet connection, and so on.

Does this model have 4 way scrolling?

    Thanks.

    Re: Nokia 6610, 6100, 7210

Taking advantage of an unanticipated opportunity, I purchased a used
Nokia 6100. I have no experience with this model but it seems similar
to 6616 I used to have and hope it would be ok. Thanks to all who
    responded to my question.
