No surprise, I guess. Phone mfrs separate the models to be supported only by
their respective divisions (aka markets).
I plan on asking the USA sellers (and importers) of the Nokia 6681 that I
want to buy whether they will provide warranty for the 1 year.
I presume that this makes it difficult to just send in the phone for firmware
updates, etc.
What is others' experience re. ownership of "graymarket" models?
Thanks,

A year ago I bought a Nokia 6260 which remains unavailable in the USA.
NokiaUSA is zero help. NokiaUK will not assist anyone outside of the UK.
NokiaHKG was of assistance and sent a manual at no charge. But when I
took it into the Nokia repair shop for a software update 6 months later
and to repair two other items, they lost everything in memory and did not
properly repair the power switch. Three times took it to the shop in a
week! However, they did give me their software CD.
Their software will not download to my computer for some unknown reason
and NokiaUSA refuses to know anything about it.
So if you have a general question or whatever, when you call NokiaUSA
tell them you have a model which they sell. For me I will not buy
another Nokia since they do not internationally support their product.
(Sure I understand that USA would not have parts, but refusal to sell
accessories, or assist in installing their software which is the same for
all phones, is going too far.)

Why do you wish to buy a european phone when there is an official US
version, the 6682?

Re: Nokia Euro models: no USA warranty
I bought a Nokia 9500 from a Miami reseller of the European model
about 9 months before it was available here. While they told me they
would not honor a graymarket warranty, they did. Maybe it was my
whining about it, or my past history of owning a 9290, but the were
very helpful with call in tech support.
I even accidently broke the big screen (closed it in a car door) and
sent it back, expecting:
1 No repair for a phone so trashed
2. No repair for a gray market phone
3. An estimate far exceeding the phones value
4. Any estimate to repair the phone
I resorted to using my 9290 again, but hated it. So, fearing the
worst, I broke down and purchased a new 9500-US version from Nokia. It
was exactly the same as the non-us phone, even down the the postal
code formating(non-American). Go figure.
In any case, about 2 weeks later my old ophone showed up. New case,
new screen, looks like a new phone....NO CHARGE.
Who would have thought.....
