where's the activity gone?

I notice a couple of years ago there were at least 10 times the amount
of posts per month than there are now, so where are people moving to
now?

I suspect the forums are becoming more popular?

I'd say you are correct. The amount of people that don't even know
Usenet even exists now days is incredible.
