It's driving me crazy!!!!
I can't find the manual for the Pay As You Go Nokia we bought about
five years ago. It usually just sits in the car for emergencies but I
just got a smaller lighter "free" mobile and I would like to take the
SIM card from the Nokia and put it into the new one so we might even
take it out of the car some time.
Having spent hours trying to find something on-line to tell me about
it, I THINK it's a 3000 series - it's one of those common or garden
Nokias everyone had around the turn of the century and was bought in
September 2001.
It has a push-in catch of contrasting colour at the bottom on the back
and two contrasting catch-like things, one on either side. Poking,
prodding, pulling haven't worked so far. Smashing is probably the only
asnwer but it cost £125 new and even though it's now worthless I don't
really want to break it.
HTF DO I GET INTO IT??!!
Many many thanks in advance for any help.
UD
(Supreme irony - at Nokia's website, it tells you where to find the
model number, yes, it's inside!)

Before you destroy what might be a good though old 'phone, have a look
through the range of mobiles on an accessories website and see if you can
identify the model. Can you take a photo of it?
Could it be a 3210. 3310, 3330?
Have you tried the really stupidest thing, taking it into a local shop and
asking them to open it

Lay it face down on a surface, apply half pressuse to the push in catch
and then slide?

You can't find one from:
http://www.europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,,4302,00.html
Hit *#0000# and tell us what is says (some old phones may need a different
sequence), this will tell the phone model without opening it (from the shown
data one would figure out the sales identity).
But really, as suggested previously, most open by pressing the unlock latch
and sliding the back cover off (some need a bit of force for the first
couple of removal attempts).

Some really are a pain if they haven't been opened for a long time ( 3210's
and 3310's can be really stuck)
they just take a bit of extra umph..
with the help of a flat bladed screw driver or dinner knife ( round/stub
ended) carefully
place the end in to the bottom of phone between rear cover and chassis now
whilst pushing the button
carefully lift the knife up towards the top of the phone.
takes a bit of jiggling around but you will do it.
We get quite a few older nokia 33/32's in that people can't get undone and
we always use this method.
just be carefull and take you time and you WILL get the Back cover off
without marking the phone.
Before replacing cover just clean round the chassis/cover and remove dust
/dirt and all should slide back on/off again no problem..

Thanks to all who replied and no, it wasn't a wind up :-) I'd always

Not content with designing a power button which is virtually impossible
to use with a cover, the Nokia Master Designer had cleverly disguised
the catch you need to press sp as to make it look as though it was
separatre from the cover. It isn't so though you think you have to get
the darn thing away from the cover you actually don't.
It's the easiest thing in the world to do once you know the secret...
