I bought a used Nokia 3200 on ebay and like it fine, but nearly went
insane trying to get a data cable to work with Nokia PC suite.
First cable was from a local swapmeet cell phone guy, a USB cable
marked as Nok 3200, turned out to be a Prolific PL-2303 USB to serial
and its supposed to look like a DKU-5, but Nokia PC suite never could
even see it despite lots of uninstall/reinstall, selecting com4 etc
etc. Trial software from Oxygen seemed to work fine, but I didn't want
to buy it, I wanted compatibility with Nokia suite.
Second cable is a CA-42 from a ebay seller with lots of positive
feedback, and it almost sort of works, I get enhancement device
connected, shows up in Nokia PC suite, but except for minor stuff froze
up on every attempt at backup and other operations.
Its now past 4 am, this is the second 8 hour plus night I have wasted
on this, fussing, reading forums and posts, trying stuff, rebooting,
etc etc.
I dig around in my old PC junk boxes and find a serial port Actisys ACT
IR200L, plug it in, XP detects new hardware and a couple reboots later
I see a phone modem and PC suite starts working fine with no delays
etc.
Dunno what the problems were with the cables, bad cables, bad phone,
bad Nokia, but I would love to stick them up whoevers reasonables nose.
