Nokia 6680 won't even reset

This morning my Nokia 6680 incorrectly showed the headset icon and went
silent.

I tried to restart, but it only ever gets as far as the initial NOKIA
screen.

I've tried removing the memory card, starting in safe mode (pencil key), and
even a hard reset (green+*+3), but nothing ever appears apart from the NOKIA
screen

I think I need to take it in to be fixed - but I wondered if anyone here
could think of something else to try.

You may need to try installing new Firmware in your phone. Up until
recently this need to be done at a Nokia Care Centre, but Henk recently
posted the below message to inform us we can now do it ourselves. If
your phone is out of warranty or you don't really want to take it to a
Nokia Care Centre you may want to give it a go.

Hi Simon.

Unfortunately, the phone needs to be on and working in order to install the
new firmware - can't get that far!
