Series 60 Backward Compatibility

I have just upgraded from the Nokia 6680 to the N73, I am hooked on
Symbian but the only thing that bugs me is the lack of backward
compatibility.

Why is it that a new revision of Series 60 cannot make use of older
applications? I've seen some emulators available for other platforms,
so maybe it could be possible for someone to make on for older
applications to work on the latest version of Symbian.

Re: Series 60 Backward Compatibility

The new S60 3rd edition is built on top of Symbian OS 9.1 which was a major
binary break due to the introduction of Platform Security concept. There is
absolutely no way to make old (pre-PlatSec) apps work on the new platform
(starting from the very different installer). I should know, I worked at
Symbian until recently :-) There will be no more binary breaks in the
foreseeable future (or so Symbian claims).
