This symbol refers to a "tape recorder", voice mailbox in this context. You
can set your voice mailbox number on this quick dial key, then "press and
hold" #1 key and you get connected. Also reads in the manual, p.23.

I think this was mentioned earlier, press and hold 0-key and you get
connected to your web browser's home page (in case of Cingular, this
probably is predefined by your operator). This appears on the manual page
57.

You must have had predictive text on and had it then turned off (can be
turned off in different ways, with the #-key too.
