Is my MMCmobile card buggered?

I think my brand spanking new MMCmobile card is losing any file I
transfer to it via a card reader.

I can write files to my 512Mb MMCmobile card via a PC using a card
reader, but they never appear on the phone!

I've formatted it a few times, both on the phone (Nokia 6680) and as
FAT16 on the PC... no help. The phone seems to put some standard
folders on it. I can't create files or folders on it from within the
phone, nor can I transfer a folder or file from the phone's internal
memory to it.

Has it somehow become write protected? (OSX Finder's and Disk Utility
say no)

Is it buggered and needing refunded? : (
