N95 & USB CHARGING

Hi,
I noticed that my N95 does not seem to charge the battery whilst in
USB mode.
It did do this in the first couple of occasions that it was connected but
since adding
PC Suite 6.84.10.3 on both the laptop and main computer, no further charging
has
taken place.

Is this normal, or have I either got the incorrect settings or running it
wrong way?

Cheers,
Malcolm

Hi there.

I was a little stunned to know that you were able to charge your N95 via the
supplied DKE-2 cable?
Am pretty sure its not possible to do this as they have the CA-100 usb
charger for that.

My N95 hasn't charged from the USB cable.

That's why nokia advises you to us a charged up handset when doing software
updates.

Re: N95 & USB CHARGING

Hi,
I'm quite happy to admit that I'm not 100% sure it did charge, but
it was my impression
when first playing with the phone. If its not supposed to charge, that's
also fine!

I think it is one of the more surprising design features. I haven't
decided whether it is a flaw or an error. I think they power socket is
superfluous, and that Nokia only really needed to fit the N95 with the
USB socket. This could have been been used for charging and/or data
transfer.

I think its a flaw. You have many usb cables that has duel purpose for all
kind of products.
Its just another way for nokia to make more money but in another sense lets
other companies come up with another product and make money.

Re: N95 & USB CHARGING

Yes I agree its a missing feature that should have been part of the system
at its first onset. This is the sort of gap that makes me look else where
when I next come to change my phone.

The "extra" required on the GPS is another one that looks like money
making to me.

Re: N95 & USB CHARGING

The POP-port has support for chargin via it, however the none of
Nokias USB->Pop cables seems to support support it. I had a docking-
station for my E60, which used a normal charger to provide charge via
the POP-port.

The pinsouts on the POP-port are available here

The N95 doesn't have a pop-port.
